Gottfried von der Goltz

As a baroque violinist and artistic director of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Gottfried von der Goltz has made an internationally renowned name for himself.  As was customary in the 18th century, he directs the FBO from the desk of the concert master. In addition, he occasionally swaps the violin for the conductor's baton, as for example in the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra's Beethoven cycle, which lasts several years.

Gottfried von der Goltz caused the experts to sit up and take notice with successful CD recordings of the long unjustly forgotten music of the Dresden Baroque and the Bach sons. Nevertheless, as a specialist he does not want to be tied down to a particular repertoire.  Rather, his extensive discography, which extends from the 17th century to the present day, shows him to be an immensely versatile and flexible musician.

In addition to multifaceted chamber music engagements, Gottfried von der Goltz is also the artistic director of the Norsk Barokkorkester.  Furthermore, as professor at the Freiburg University of Music, he is a sought-after teacher of baroque and modern violin.
