Martin Platz, Tenor

His musical education was given to tenor Martin Platz at the University of Music Würzburg. He studied voice with Martin Hummel and choral conducting with Jörg Straube. In addition, he participated in master classes with Margreet Honig and Peter Nelson. He currently receives vocal coaching from Tilman Lichdi. Martin Platz is a member of the Nuremberg State Theatre’s opera ensemble, where he could draw attention to himself especially in Mozart roles such as Belmonte in The Abduction from the Seraglio, Tamino in The Magic Flute and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni. In addition, he has appeared for instance as Daland’s steersman in The Flying Dutchman, Thespis/Mercure in Rameau’s Platée and Lindoro in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri. In 2018, he sang the part of Telemaco in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria to great acclaim. On the concert platform, he appears frequently at noted venues at home and abroad mainly in works by Bach, Handel, Monteverdi and Mendelssohn under conductors such as Hansjörg Albrecht, Marcus Bosch, Christopher Hogwood, Bernhard Labadie, Paul Agnew and Hervet Niquet. Concert engagements in 2018 include the Evangelist in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in a choreography by John Neumeier with the Hamburg Ballett in Moscow, and with the Münchener Bach-Chor under Hansjörg Albrecht at the Philharmonie am Gasteig in Munich. In recent years, he has performed various lied cycles such as Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin and Brahms’ Die schöne Magelone as well as Hugo Wolf’s lieder on words by Mörike. Since 2007, Martin Platz teaches voice at the University of Music Würzburg.
