German soprano Susanne Bernhard was born in Munich in 1976 and started to study singing in her home town with Angelica Vogel at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in 1995. In addition, she attended the classes of Helmut Deutsch (lied interpretation) and Hanns-Martin Schneidt (oratorio) and received further vocal coaching by Jan-Hendrik Rootering and Dietrich Schneider. Throughout her studies she took part in numerous productions of the Bavarian Theatre Academy. 1997 she appeared as Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the Prinzregententheater in Munich. At the same venue she was presented to a large audience as promising newcomer in the televised New Year's Eve Gala 1997/98 with Edita Gruberova, Francisco Araiza and Matti Salminen.
Susanne Bernhard performed in three operas of the renowned German composer Wilfried Hiller: She sang the title role in the scenic creation of Schulamit, Wendy in Peter Pan in the staging of August Everding and Nixe Aleila in the creation of Eduard auf dem Seil (in concert with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester). In a gala concert including a live radio broadcast on the occasion of composer Harald Genzmer's 90th birthday she sang his solo cantata The Singer in the Prison. The Bayerischer Rundfunk also engaged her for their Millenium New Year's Eve Concert presenting young artists and for an Italian Night which took part in November 2002 at the Munich cultural center Am Gasteig.
From 2000 until 2003, Susanne Bernhard was engaged at the Opera Kiel as lyric colorature soprano, performing roles such as Musette in La Bohüme, Gretel in Hünsel und Gretel,...
